An insurance scheme has been implemented for gig workers working in the state of Karnataka. This is the first scheme implemented in the country. The scheme is also applicable to accidents occurring while the gig workers are on or off duty.
Eligible gig workers can register on Seva Sindhu portal. The insurance scheme for gig workers is completely free and there is no need to pay any kind of premium, the government said in a release.
Gig Workers Insurance Scheme Benefits:
- In case of death due to accident, the insurance compensation is Rs 2 lakh and the life insurance is Rs 2 lakh, totaling Rs. 4 lakhs
- In case of permanent disability due to accident Rs. Up to 2 lakhs.
- Hospital Expense Reimbursement upto Rs.1 Lakhs (for Accident Cases Only)
- Life Insurance Rs. 2 lakhs.
- These workers are eligible for registration:
- All unorganized gig workers involved in food delivery in companies like Spiggy, Zomato and e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, Porter, Pharmacy, Blinkit, JeFlo, Domino’s are eligible.
Karnataka State Gig Workers Insurance Scheme Enrollment Eligibility:
- Minimum 18 to maximum 60 years age group can register.
- Should not be a payer of Income Tax.
- Provident Fund and ESI should not be beneficiaries.
- Only for those who are doing gig career (delivery work) in Karnataka.
Necessary Documents:
- Aadhaar Number
- Identity Card / Salary Slip / Bank Pass Book of Salary issued by Professional Institutions.
- E-Shram Registration Number Otherwise get registered at www.eshram.gov.in.
